March 2006 Concerts Dedicated to Marianne Schrader
Posted on 02/20/06
In January we lost friend and bass clarinetist Marianne Schrader. Playing music was always part of her life, and when she and her husband Jim retired to Central Oregon in 1997, she found a musical home with the Central Oregon Concert Band, as it was called then. Each first rehearsal the low woodwind section would buzz if she wasn’t there, but more often than not, she was taking a break from band to travel with Jim. Sometimes, though, she took time off to take care of her health. She was a wonderful lady to spend so many Thursday evenings with, and those of us who sat near her in band and knew her will miss her terribly. We dedicate this concert to her.
On the March program we will play the following pieces (in order of how they sit on my music stand as I prepare to practice).
Symphony No. 4-Finale Tchaikovsky/Singleton
The Bluebells of Scotland Anderson
Inchon Smith (this one gives me chills!)
La Belle Helene Offenbach (sorry I don’t have the accents in there)
The Old Grumbly Bear Fucik/Glover-featuring principal bassoonist Wendy Bloom. She’ll show us how that bundle of sticks is supposed to be played!
The Irish Washerwoman Anderson
Golliwogg’s Cakewalk Debussy/Lewis
The Rakes of Mallow Anderson
Colonel Bogey Alford/Fennell
Sandpaper Ballet Anderson
An American Elegy Ticheli
Sunday, March 19, 2006, 2:00pm.
Monday, March 20, 2006, 7:30pm.
Both concerts will be held at the Pinckney Center for the Performing Arts on the Central Oregon Community College Campus in Bend, OR. Admission is free. Tickets will be available at the door, or may be reserved in advance by calling 389-2035, or by email at yoleo@email.com .
