IRS Grants Charitable Status

I'm pleased to announce that the long process of applying for 501(c )(3) non-profit status is finished, and the IRS has granted us our advance ruling. This means that the Cascade Winds Symphonic Band Association, the safety net organization that supports the Band, does not have to pay taxes, and it also ensures that your financial contributions to the band are tax deductible.
In the Spring of 2005, we introduced our Season Ticket subscription program, and I would like to thank you all for your generosity. Our current financial goals are to provide scholarships for musicians in the Band for whom tuition is a financial obstacle, to fulfill financial needs that the COCC budget might not cover for the Band, and to provide a safety net for the Band in case we are cut from the College's budget in the future. Our donation levels correspond directly with the tuition the College charges for each musician to participate, and are as follows:
- $25-Quarter Note. The Quarter Note is a one of the foundations of music, and Quarter Note donors are the foundation of our support
- $65-Solo. A Solo contribution will pay the scholarship of one musician for one school quarter.
- $130-Duo. The Duo level of support will sponsor two musicians for one concert cycle, or one musician for two concert cycles. It could also purchase a music score for the Band.
- $195-Trio. Three musicians can benefit from a Trio level donation for one concert cycle, or one musician can be sponsored for the entire regular season.
- $260 and up-Quartet. The Quartet donation can sponsor one musician for the entire regular season, plus Summer Band. Donations at this level will enable us to expand our program to include more outreach work, such as bringing music to outlying rural areas, and working with more young people.
Currently, donors receive tickets in the mail prior to each concert. In the future we will be adding donor benefits. Donations can be mailed to:
