Cascade Winds Picks Its New Director. Click here for details!
Welcome to another exciting season with the Cascade Winds Symphonic Band. This is a special year as we are in the process of selecting the next music director and conductor. Our concerts this season will be conducted by guest directors, David Sime, Dan Judd and Suzanne Mudge, each of whom are finalists for the position. A brief biography of each of our guest directors can be found here.
The Cascade Winds Symphonic Band is a 65-member ensemble made up of adults from all around the Central Oregon region. It was established as a college and community band in 1976 to fill a need for local adults to play in a concert and wind ensemble. Thus, the band is, in many respects, a continuation of the Bend Municipal Band which had performed earlier in the century. Though the members are from many walks of life (ranging from music store owners to state police employees and school bus drivers to jet pilots), all are students and lovers of music. Many are full-time COCC students majoring in various academic programs ranging from music to history, and some are talented and dedicated high school students.
The Central Oregon Concert Band was one of four bands which founded the Oregon Adult Band Conference and has appeared numerous times at those events in the Willamette Valley. The band plays formal concerts during the year . The band regularly plays in parks and other locations during the summers. The band is open for membership to musicians in the area and interested parties are encouraged to contact Jan Tuckerman via e-mail at jan@cascadewinds.org, or call 541-383-7700 x 2521.
